Our model for effective philanthropy

Letter from the Founders

Welcome to the Campion Foundation Web site. We plan to use this site to spotlight the groundbreaking work of our grantees, publish project results that other nonprofits can use, and provide a place to build momentum around the issues we are committed to: protecting wilderness, ending homelessness and strengthening the nonprofit community.

We established the foundation in 2005 to expand our giving and provide a forum for new ideas in philanthropic leadership. The business strategy Tom developed as the co-founder and chairman of Zumiez — an action-sports retail company — will serve as a model for highly effective philanthropy.

As we embark on building the foundation, we are indebted to the philanthropic leadership we are joining — from the collaborative power of the Northwest Environmental Funders to years of research and development data on homelessness and capacity building that other foundations have openly shared with us.
