In 2007, the Campion Foundation invested in transforming an innovative and nationally recognized nonprofit from a regional organization into a major movement. AIDS Housing of Washington (AHW) became Building Changes, a movement to end homelessness.
For 20 years, AHW made its reputation by providing technical assistance nationwide to create service-enriched housing for the chronically ill and economically disenfranchised. Now this group has crafted a bold new vision along with a compelling mission statement.
New vision: To create a statewide housing and service system that truly meets the needs of all homeless families and individuals.
New mission: Building Changes is a catalyst for ending homelessness, addressing the economic and social conditions that adversely affect people’s housing, health and job opportunities. Building Changes coalesces public and private resources to create lasting solutions, transforming the way people in need are served.
The Campion Foundation invested in AHW’s new strategic business plan, which included a major rebranding and communications effort, along with a policy-and-systems reform blueprint. This plan analyzes policies and identifies boundary spanner strategies — efforts that bridge services, professionals and policy makers for the greatest possible impact in the fight to end homelessness.
