Strengthening Nonprofits

501 Commons (formerly Executive Service Corps)

For over 20 years Executive Service Corps of Washington (ESC) has addressed a broad range of the needs of nonprofits by providing high quality affordable services through the deployment of volunteer executives, nonprofit and business professionals, and pro bono professional consultants.

ESC is now 501 Commons. The new name reflects the organization's expanding programs and services for organizations of all sizes and organizational maturity. The expanded services include Leadership Coaching and Executive Advisors, the Financial Fitness Program, and Prepare/Respond/Serve (for emergency planning). Cohort based programs, Springboard (for Arts and Cultural organizations), Catalyst (for human service providers), and Volunteer Impact Program (improves volunteer management practices), offer a way for organizations to learn together while developing targeted plans to address organizational issues. 501 Commons also provides bookkeeping services to many Seattle-area nonprofits.

In 2010, the Campion Foundation funded the statewide Information and Referral Service, including the development of a searchable directory of community consultants (approved through an application process) and vendors serving nonprofits, as well as 501 Commons services and those of other capacity builders. The directory also provides access to best practice information, tools, web links and a statewide map of venues for meetings and events. The directory is a "first stop" resource for any nonprofit seeking answers, support, and services in order to become a more effective, sustainable organization.
